The 2008 Carmignano Il Sasso is a bit muted in this vintage. The fruit shows lovely freshness and energy, but the 2008 doesn’t quite have its usual mid-palate elegance. Sweet black cherries, menthol and licorice linger on the understated finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014.
Piaggia is one of the most exciting wineries in Tuscany. In particular, the Carmignano Riserva Piaggia, stellar again in 2007, is one of the region’s top reds.
