A top-notch wine, certainly one of the most successful wines of this vintage, the 1981 St.-Pierre is impressively dark ruby and very aromatic, with the scent of ripe berry fruit, cedarwood, and caramel. On the palate, it is quite rich, medium to full bodied, long, lush, and moderately tannic. It is a big, extroverted St.-Julien, with considerable personality. Anticipated maturity: Now-2000. Last tasted, 11/88.
