It is tempting to think that the 1990 Chardonnay is more opulent, fuller, deeper, and richer than the crisper, more subtle, medium-bodied 1991. In truth, they are of equal quality, with the 1991 more elegant and the 1990 fatter and riper. Both are loaded with fruit, personality, and character. Matanzas Creek is a laudable winery in every respect. While everything that emerges is of the highest quality level, Matanzas Creek has established itself as a reference point winery for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Merlot.
