I am told that the 2002 CHATEAU PORTO CARRAS, notwithstanding the back label which claims that it is Cabernet Sauvignon, is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Limnio and 5% Merlot. It has an earthy nose, a mid-weight mid-palate and enough acidity and tannin to give the wine some verve at the outset. With a little air, it drinks nicely and has a gentle, friendly feel until the tannins take over. They become somewhat astringent. Notwithstanding the tannic bite, it is maturing rapidly and doesn’t seem quite as fresh as it should, more stolid than charming. Drink now-2011.
