I am immensely impressed with the Pinot Noirs being fashioned by this small artisanal producer. There are three 1995 offerings . The 1995 Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard (50 cases) is an exceptionally promising wine from this vineyard, which has produced some splendid Pinot Noirs for the likes of Kistler. The wine's deep ruby/purple color is followed by spicy, thick aromas of earthy black fruits, truffles, and toasty new oak. Full-bodied and powerful, with some tannin to shed, this is a backward yet pure, rich, authoritatively flavored Pinot Noir that needs another 1-2 years in the bottle; it should keep for a decade.
