Made from 20-year old Shiraz vines cropped at 1.3 tons of fruit per acre, this promising 2001 was aged 16 months in American oak barrels (one-third new) and bottled unfined as well as unfiltered. Even better, there are 1,500 cases of this blockbuster Australian red. Its impenetrable black/purple color is followed by attractive aromas of black fruits, loamy earth, charcoal, and pepper. Dense, full-bodied, and opulent, this classic Barossa Shiraz is thick and juicy yet remarkably well-balanced (14% alcohol). It will provide pleasure over the near-term as well as the next 15+ years.
