Latium Morini’s 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Campo Leon is a beautiful wine. At this young stage, you get a lot of Amarone-style dried fruit and raisin. But there’s enough intensity and integrity here to secure a graceful aging evolution. Subtle background tones of spice, leather, cola, cedar and mesquite add buoyancy and depth to the bouquet. It’s a modern interpretation (aged 36 months in tonneaux) with strong legs to stand on. Drink 2015-2025.
Latium Morini is a budding protagonist of the non-Classico subzone of Valpolicella. The Morini family purchased this property at the heart of the Mezzane Valley in 1992. They are currently working hard to restore an old farmhouse that will soon be converted to an on-site tasting room. They also plan to release a Riserva version of the 2008 Amarone that is not ready yet.
