From the northern extremity of the Cote d'Or, the ruby-colored Marsannay possesses a sulking, austere yet sweet nose and flavors suggesting steel, stones, coffee, herbs and blackberries. Medium-bodied and chewy, it should be drunk between 1999-2003.This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy in Washington, D.C. in April. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided.Overall, 1995 is another in a string of successful vintages for Jadot. Light, enticing, floral black-cherry nose. Elegant, light black cherries and spices on the palate. Not big but very pretty, it’s a wine that will peak by 2005. From an appellation best known for roses in the northern reaches of the Cote d’Or, just below Dijon. Jadot has Burgundy fairly well blanketed and the negociant’s wines are usually solid or better.——W.E.(11/15/1999)—— 87
