All of the Chardonnays are hand-made wines that are whole cluster fermented with indigenous yeasts, put through full malolactic fermentation, aged in approximately 60% new oak, and bottled without filtration. They possess firm backbones (from good acidity), as well as strong personalities. The 1996 Chardonnay River Block (150 cases) is the product of an old Wente clone of Chardonnay. The wine reveals an orange blossom and honey-scented nose, creamy, medium to full-bodied, concentrated flavors, and a judicious touch of spicy oak. Its elegant, mineral, pineapple character adds to the wine's intriguing personality. It should drink well for 3-4 years. Tel. (707) 433-2305; Fax (707) 433-2358
