Given its weight, ripeness, and concentration, the tannic, hard, closed 1990 Volnay-Caillerets offers more promise than pleasure. It is the most tightly knit of Glantenay's 1990s. I would cellar it for at least 4-5 years and drink it between 1996-2008.Based on the stunning quality of Glantenay's 1990s, I should have given more attention to this domaine. All the 1990s were aged in 25% new oak casks and bottled without fining or filtration. Immensely impressive wines, they are clearly made from late-harvested Pinot Noir, given their jammy, ripe, sweet character and concentration.
