Tasted at the Chambolle Amoureuses vertical in London, the 1978 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses attested to the greatness of this Burgundy vintage. It has a lovely, mature Pinot nose with orange sorbet, maraschino, autumn leaves and chestnut, and remarkably it becomes fresher and fresher as it opens up in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and certainly well balanced. It is not a complex Amoureuses per se, perhaps reflective of the times, yet it has admirable liveliness and shows little sign of falling apart. If your expectations are not sky high, you will love this 1978. Tasted November 2015.
