The medium-bodied 1995 Merlot Sangiacomo offers up-front, sweet, chocolatey, toasty, smoky, berry aromas and flavors. It provides sweet fruit on the attack, but then falls off, revealing less than stellar extraction, depth, and overall harmony. The wine offers pleasure on the front of the palate, but there is little follow through. I would opt for drinking it over the next 5-7 years. Given this winery's history of past performances, this wine did not perform as well as I expected. It did not appear to be of the same high quality as previous releases from top vintages.
