Analytically, the 1997 Riesling Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain is identical to the stunning 1994. Produced from the steep southern exposure slopes of the vineyard that is Alsace's Montrachet, it offers mind-blowing complexity aromatically, with well-defined flowers, stones, earth, and minerals competing with bergamots, pears, and white peaches for the taster's attention. On the palate it displays magnificent purity, delineation, elegance, power, richness, and focus. This medium-to-full-bodied, silky-textured wine is massively dense, concentrated and intense without being heavy. Projected maturity: 2001-2015.Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel (510) 524-1524.
