The botrytis-laden 1998 Riesling Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain fermented for over a year. Hints of gold can be discerned in its color and it displays a smoky, apricot, peach, and tropical fruit-filled nose reminiscent of a Pinot Gris. On the palate, this opulent, medium-to-full-bodied wine is crammed with spiced apples, super-ripe yellow fruits, and layers of minerals, earth, and stones. Broad and intense, it is both sublimely rich and fresh. This impeccably balanced wine has the potential to become even grander with cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2014+.
