The 2005 Red Hills Estate Pinot Noir includes 11% whole cluster fruit and matured in 83% new French oak for 14 months. It has a fresher and more delineated bouquet with dark plum, melted tar and undergrowth, touches of iris developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, moderate acidity and there is quite good weight in the mouth, but perhaps just let down by a lack of delineation and tension on the smudged finish. Up to that, this was fine.
