The limited production 1993 Pinot Noir Red Hills Estate is splendid. It offers a deep color, followed by a knock-out nose of jammy black fruits, flowers, and toasty vanillin oak. It is gloriously rich, velvety-textured, opulent, and loaded with flavor and intensity. This terrific wine is one of the finest Oregon Pinot Noirs I have tasted. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
The 1993 Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir Red Hills Estate are the debut releases from this promising vineyard owned by Napa Valley's Pine Ridge Winery. Gary Andrus, the winemaker/partner at Pine Ridge is in full control of the winemaking at Archery Summit and these releases attest to the lofty goals he has set.
There is even more good news. Barrel samples of Archery Summit's 1994s struck me as some of the finest Pinot Noirs I have tasted. Archery Summit, whose winery tee-shirt logo is "Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba Bad to the Beaune", is for real!
