This wine has been fully mature since I first tasted it over a decade ago. It is an outstanding 1961, with a dark garnet color, exuberant, intense aromatics consisting of smoked meats, jammy fruits, dried spices, and intriguing truffle and grilled vegetable-like aromas. Medium-bodied, and still fresh with plenty of extract and full body, this wine has some tannin in the finish, which will undoubtedly remain after all of the fruit has faded. Anticipated maturity: Now-2002. Last tasted 11/95
