Maison Leflaive purchased three barrels of Montrachet as grape must. The day of my tasting it was in an oxidative state, displaying some gold to its color. It exhibits a rich, spicy, butterscotch, and mineral-laden nose as well as an intense and densely packed personality. Flavors of almond cookies, stones, clay, and baked apples can be found in this sensual and thick offering. Grux was planning to add sulfur to the barrels after my tasting to take the Montrachet out of its oxidative condition. Projected maturity: 2000-2006.
