The 1994 Alte di Altesi Vino da Tavola, made from 70% Sangiovese Grosso and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, is a bigger, denser, fuller, more tannic wine than the Palazzo Altesi. It is more Bordeaux-like wine than the Palazzo Altesi, offering a dark purple color, and sweet, tobacco and blackcurrant aromas intertwined with smoky notes from new wood casks. Deep and dense, this medium to full-bodied wine displays excellent winemaking, a spicy, ripe black fruit personality, admirable succulence, and even more depth than the Palazzo Altesi. It will last for a decade, although it will be hard to resist its current charms. It is made in limited quantities of just over 1,000 cases.
One of the finer producers of Brunello di Montalcino, Altesino has had an impeccable track record of producing high quality wine since their first vintage in the early seventies. The current releases are all noteworthy.
