Georges Vernay has begun making an even more limited production, luxury cuvee than his famed Coteaux du Vernon. Just being released, the 1994 Condrieu Les Chaillees de l'Enfer (only 1500 bottles produced) is a stunningly rich, full-bodied, opulent Condrieu revealing an inner-core of apricot/peach fruit backed up by steely, mineral-like scents and flavors. Made from a vineyard planted in 1957, and put in a specially designed bottle, this is an elegant, provocatively perfumed and flavored wine. It should be a big hit with Condrieu enthusiasts.
