The 1998 Gran Caus White is the same blend as the 2004. It is more deeply colored and still very fresh and lively. There are secondary nuances from bottle age, particularly forest and mineral elements. The winery has even older vintages which the importer reports to be in fine condition and which can be special ordered. Drink it over the next 1-2 years. Carlos Esteva is the man behind these intriguing white wines. His M.O. bears a certain resemblance to that of Kalin Cellars’ Terry Leighton particularly with regard to releasing wines only when he feels they are ready to be drunk.
