The 2002 Meursault En Luraule explodes from the glass with crisp apple and lily aromas. Medium-bodied, satiny-textured and floral, this is a refined wine of excellent depth. Its broad, fresh personality generously exhibits ripe apple and pear flavors. Anticipated maturity: now-2009.
Remi Jobard waited until the 22nd to begin harvesting his Chardonnay crop. “It was important to let the grapes ripen.” His father Charles, who always attends my tasting, said that he would tell me in two or three years what he thought of the 2002s. “That’s when I like to drink wines. The older I’ve gotten, the younger I like my wines.” Interestingly, this is a refrain I’ve heard a great deal recently, most notably from my father. Time will tell if this is the wisdom of the experienced.
