The 2014 Contraste Branco is seen here for the first time in the USA. It is a field blend, fermented in stainless steel tanks (70%) and new French oak barrels (30%) and then aged for ten months. Showing good depth for the vintage and the second wine, it has a steely finish nuanced with a bit of lemon and stones. This is actually less evolved now than when I saw it in Porto over the summer, perhaps a combination of bottle shock and travel shock. One thing that it does do better, however, is present more depth and more intensity. It has fleshed out just a bit. It is another fine Contraste bargain, at least as good as most, perhaps better. As it warms and pulls itself together, it seems very impressive for its level this year.
