In 1988 Lignier produced his second vintage of Charmes-Chambertin. It is one of the most monumental wines produced in burgundy during the eighties. Phenomenally extracted with a dazzling black/ruby color, this wine, made from extremely old vines, exhibits sensational concentration and an unbelievable richness. Unfortunately, there will only be a handful of cases available for the export market. For the lucky few who find a bottle of this sublime and staggering red burgundy, it should make a fabulous glass of hedonistic wine between 1995-2005. Lignier has made some spectacular wines in 1988. None of the wines are fined or filtered, and as a result, they will throw a heavy sediment in 2-3 years time.
