The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Poggiotondo is surprisingly thin and streamlined in a manner that is counterintuitive, considering this warm and fruit-forward vintage. The wine offers dried raspberry and wild strawberry with plum cake, resin and tar. Like the other Brunello releases from Centolani this year, I can't help but notice that this wine is more mature and evolved than it should be this early in the game. About 30,000 bottles were produced.

This expressive red starts out with forthcoming aromas of floral, cherry and berry, picking up notes of mineral and tobacco. Lean and dry on the finish, with a dusty feel to the outsized tannins.
