The 1999 Barolo, the “classic” bottling, potent and alcoholic on the nose, adds chocolate and caramel to the plums and licorice. Structured, concentrated, and substantial, it will need some time to round off its sizeable tannins, though the sweetness of the finish gives a pleasurable density to the tactile sensations.
