Often my favorite Albert Morot offering (a recently tasted 1990 from my cellar was outstanding!), the 1995 Beaune Bressandes is a huge success. Ruby-colored, it offers a superb nose of wild blueberries and red currants. This thick, silky-textured and medium-bodied wine has an admirable spicy and cherry-filled character. Elegant, and packed with layered fruit, it will offer delicious drinking from 1998-2007. The 1995 offerings are the most complete wines produced at Albert Morot since 1990.
The 1995s were tasted twice, first in January, and most recently at the end of June, both times from barrel. My notes were consistent.
As always, ratings with a score in parentheses indicate the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle.
Burgundy aficionados and neophytes who are shocked at the high prices demanded by this region's top wines should search out Morot's offerings. They are delicious, supple yet structured, powerful and elegant expressions of Pinot Noir. Moreover, they are respectful to their respective terroirs - and are great values! These wines, which can be drunk young, can also age well, as was demonstrated by two superb 1983s (Beaune Bressandes and Beaune Cent Vignes) I recently tasted.
