Paola De Ferrari has decided to delay the release of her single-vineyard Vino Nobile, Nocio dei Boscarelli, judging – undoubtedly accurately – that a powerful vintage such as 2001 needs some additional bottle time to give its maximum. The 2001 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is certainly an appealing bottle, very fragrant with lightly smoky raspberry and red currant aromas, much vigor and continuity on the palate, a developing suppleness of texture, tannins of finesse, and silkiness on the finish. Not a big wine, but very poised and elegant, a pleasure to drink over the next decade.
