Black cherries, mint and sweet toasted oak emerge from the beautifully-delineated, layered 2004 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. This sweet, pure offering boasts awesome clarity and focus, with finessed tannins and terrific overall balance. A blend of 80% Sangiovese with the addition of Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it spent 24 months in oak barrels of various sizes. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
This is an excellent set of releases from Boscarelli, a reference point producer for fine Vino Nobile. Winemaking is overseen by talented consuling oenologist Maurizio Castelli.
