The 2004 Amarone della Valpolicella Campo dei Gigli is a big, richly-textured wine with layers of ripe dark cherries, tar, licorice, smoke and sweet toasted oak that flow from its sumptuous, large-scaled frame. This extroverted, full-throttle Amarone should drink beautifully over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019.
Although Tenuta Sant’Antonio makes a variety of wines, the estate only excels with its higher-end bottlings, in particular the Amarones. The rest of the range still needs work.
