Opening to smooth richness and generous black fruit, the 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Campo dei Gigli is a little tighter at its core, owing to the cooler conditions of this vintage, with sharp layers of spice, tar and smoke at the edges. However, the wines of Tenuta Sant'Antonio always show exceptional integration and balance, and that's what you get here. The house blend is 70% Corvina and Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, 5% Croatina and 5% Oseleta. This estate prefers a slightly shorter appassimento time at 90 days, and the residual sugar is high at eight grams per liter, which adds to the softness and velvety richness of this wine. Production is 21,000 bottles.
