Given the quality of the growing season, the 1995 Volnay flirts with disappointment, even though it remains an attractive wine. It has a gritty, open-knit, scorched earth bouquet with a hint of incense. But the aromatics lack the cohesion and purity of the 1996. The palate is medium-bodied and quite linear. There are plenty of dark, black brambly fruit here with dried herbs breaking through toward the finish, but it pulls up short with its shirt untucked. Drink now-2018+. Tasted September 2013.
