The 2006 Maduresa is composed of 25% Mando, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Monastrell, Syrah, Merlot, and Petit Verdot aged for 12 months in French oak.. The stated objective of the wine is to rescue the indigenous Mando grape from extinction. Purple/black in color, it offers up an aromatic array of smoke, crushed stone, espresso roast, blueberry, and blackberry. Dense, intense, and flavorful, it comes off as a bit straightforward and one-dimensional. Nevertheless, there is plenty of pleasure to be had in this first-class effort.
