Romero is doing some stunning work in Gigondas from a tiny parcel (2.4 acres) of 30-year old vines. Aging takes place in 2-year old oak barrels, and the wines are bottled without filtration. The 2003 Gigondas reveals more alcohol, headiness, and glycerin than its 2004 counterpart as well as riper, more flamboyant notes of red and black fruits interwoven with garrigue, pepper, and earth. Enjoy this rich, chewy Gigondas over the next 7-8 years. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Cellars, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 358-1565
