The 1997 Pinot Noir Thieriot Vineyard comes from both the Pommard and Joseph Swan clones. The vineyard is across from the Summa Vineyard, a site where Williams-Selyem produced a handful of terrific Pinots. The Thieriot Vineyard offering reminds me of a good premier cru Beaune with its bing cherry, earthy, loamy soil scents. Medium-bodied and elegant, with crisp, tangy acidity, and a fresh, vibrant appeal, it should age nicely for 4-5 years.
Ted Lemon told me that he did a saignee of all his 1997 Pinots because of high yields, and that all of these wines were scheduled to be bottled with neither fining nor filtration.
As I said before, virtually the entire production of Littorai is sold via a mailing list ... readers take note. Tel. (707) 963-4762; Fax (707) 963-7332
