A limited cuvee of under 150 cases, named after the importer’s son, the 2003 Luna Beberide Daniel is fashioned from the winery’s finest vineyard parcels (planted at higher elevations of 2,300 and 3,000 feet). This oak-aged cuvee is a terrific example of Bierzo. A black/blue/ruby color is accompanied by a gorgeous nose of violets, blueberries, raspberries, and cherries. Elegant, with good acidity, fabulous density, and a broad, cerebral palate impression, this is a gorgeously structured, well-delineated wine to drink over the next 10-12 years. Earth, leather and mildly stewed aromas greet you, and right away one can tell this wine came from a warm vintage. It has integrity and depth but maybe it still couldn't escape what 2003 threw at it. Why do we say that? The acidity seems higher than normal, maybe because of early picking, and it lacks the pure-pleasure quotient that we look for in higher-priced Bierzo wines.——M.S.(11/1/2007)—— 87
