Colombo continues to solidify and build on the important role he plays in the Rhone Valley. Since my first meeting with him, he has matured considerably, and is presently making the finest wines of his young career. In the atrocious 1993 vintage, Colombo's talent is admirably displayed as he turned out two successful wines. The soft, round, well-colored 1993 Cornas Terres Brulees exhibits surprising ripeness and a sweet fruit-filled mid-palate (missing in most 1993s). Moreover, there is a spicy, earthy, attractive black fruit character to this medium-bodied, tannic wine. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Importer: Langdon Shiverick, Cleveland, OH; tel.
