The estate’s 2005 Poggio De’ Colli is Cabernet Franc. It, too, was harvested as late as possible. The wine saw malolactic fermentation in oak, where it aged for 24 months. Earthiness, tar, smoke, minerals and sweet dark fruit emerge from this soft-textured wine. Today it comes across as somewhat austere and lacking the stuffing to balance its structural components. Ideally I might have wished for a little more varietal expression as well. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.This is a strong set of new releases from proprietor Mauro Vannucci and consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli.A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel.
