The 2008 Cabernet Franc Poggio de’ Colli is another understated red. The Poggio de’ Colli shows good delineation in its red fruit, but not the varietal definition and sheer pedigree that defines the very top years. Hints of tobacco, worn-in leather and crushed flowers linger on the finish. The 2008 comes across as a relatively early maturing vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015.
Piaggia is one of the most exciting wineries in Tuscany. In particular, the Carmignano Riserva Piaggia, stellar again in 2007, is one of the region’s top reds.
