The 2008 Arte (90% Nebbiolo, 10% Barbera) emerges from the glass with freshly cut roses, cherries, spices and licorice. The wine shows quite a bit of freshness and brightness, qualities that aren’t so apparent in many 2008 Nebbiolo and Nebbiolo-based wines. A wonderful sense of florality is woven throughout, leading to a refined, impeccably polished finish. The 2008 is way too young, but it is a fabulous wine that only needs a few more years in the cellar. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.
This is a strong set of wines from Domenico Clerico, one of the few growers in Piedmont who can be counted on to deliver the goods year after year throughout his entire range, from top to bottom.
