This winery's red wine selections are nearly too good to believe! The 1990 Rioja Reserva (100% Tempranillo) is a classy, complex, rich, medium-bodied wine that exhibits a character not unlike a fine Graves, with lead pencil, roasted red and black fruits, and toasty oak notes. It needs time to develop in the glass, but this supple, nicely-textured, concentrated wine could merit an outstanding rating with another 1-2 years of bottle age, and will last for 5-8 years. It is an ambitiously built "serious" wine that tastes like it should cost $25 or more. This Rioja bodega must be one of the world's great value wineries. Readers may remember my ecstatic reviews of last year's releases, and I am just as thrilled about the new vintages. Readers depressed about the skyrocketing prices for well-known Italian, French, and Californian wines, should realize that Sierra Cantabria's wines offer spectacular relief from high prices. They are remarkable values
