The 2006 Reserva went through malolactic in barrel and was aged for 18 months in 20% new French and American oak. Balsamic, Asian spice, incense, smoke, and violet aromas form the bouquet of this round but slightly superficial Reserva. The wine is supple and the tannins are well-integrated but it is in need of greater depth and concentration, an affliction common to a number of wines from the 2006 Rioja vintage.
