The 2008 Chianti Classico Castello di Ama comes across as rich and sensual, but also quite understated. It is an open, accessible wine with attractive layers of dark fruit and a medium-bodied personality. In 2008 the estate did not bottle their top Chiantis Casuccia and Bellavista, instead all of the fruit went into the Castello di Ama. Even that was not enough to elevate this wine above the overall quality of the year. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018.
Castello di Ama is one of the properties that suffered the most in 2008. Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti decided against bottling their single-vineyard Chiantis, and used all of their best fruit for the Castello di Ama bottling.
