The 2000 Cabernet Roennfeldt was aged 36 months in old French wood, and the 2000 Shiraz Roennfeldt spent similar time in American oak. The fact that 2000 was a challenging vintage is obvious in tasting these wines. While they are both outstanding, they are not at the level of more recent vintages. The 2000 Cabernet Roennfeldt reveals a certain austerity and leanness along with herbal notes intermixed with abundant toasty oak as well as black fruits. It is certainly successful for the vintage, but it does not reveal enough depth of fruit or richness to carry the long aging in oak. Drink it over the next decade.
