Pelissero goes from strength to strength with his 2006 Barbera d’Alba Piani. The wine possesses notable concentration in its dark jammy fruit and sweet toasted oak. Made in a full-bodied, super-ripe style, it reveals silky-textured tannins and awesome harmony. The oak remains present, but well-balanced. Anticipated maturity:2008-2014.
Giorgio Pelissero is based in Treiso, in the heart of the Barbaresco zone. While I have long admired his wines, it often seemed as though Pelissero wasn’t getting the most of his vineyards. That seems to have changed with this set of releases. I was simply blown away by what I tasted, and that includes the higher-end wines as well.
