The 2003 Perigree – Seven Hills Estate is the winery’s flagship red and comes from the oldest and best blocks of the Seven Hills Vineyard (owned by the winery in partnership with Pepper Bridge Winery and Leonetti Cellar). It is composed of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc. It delivers aromas of pain grille, spice box, cassis, and black cherry. It has a supple palate-feel with oodles of ripe, sweet, layered dark fruit, soft tannins, and excellent depth. L’Ecole’s estate Bordeaux blend is a bigger, chewier wine than its companion Apogee, although in this new vintage the two are far closer than the 2002s. Still pulling itself together, this wine hints at lime, stone and pepper, and features a fair amount of broad, chocolaty oak. The fruit is hiding just a bit, but this is very well made and should round out nicely over the next 3–5 years. ——P.G.(8/1/2006)—— 90
