Deep garnet colored with a little brick, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is intensely scented of creme de cassis and blackberry preserves over hints of baking spices, smoked meat, truffles and a whiff of bay leaf. Medium to full bodied, concentrated and expressive in the mouth, it has a solid backbone of firm grainy tannins and crisp acid, finishing long and pure. Just entering its drinking window, it should continue to cellar to 2022+.
Catching-up with owner Brian Lynn recently, in addition to his current releases I tasted through verticals of Majella’s Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and The Malleea to track the evolution of the styles. The results go to show, it certainly pays to put a few bottles of these well constructed wines away.
Majella does not currently have a US importer.
