This wine has actually turned out better than I initially thought. It suffers in comparison to the 1989 and 1990, but the color is a dark garnet, and the wine offers up notes of cigar smoke, loamy, earthy scents, a hint of truffle, and some sweet cherry fruit that is interwoven with a streak of herbaceousness. The wine is a medium-bodied, mid-weight La Conseillante with a slightly rugged finish. Anticipated maturity: Now-2004. Last tasted, 4/02.
