This is a blend of Sangiovese, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The 2016 Sant'Antimo Rosso Le Due Gemme opens to an inky dark appearance. The bouquet is highly distinctive with earthy notes of wild mushroom and autumnal leaf. At the core of the wine, you will find a solid heart of blackberry fruit with a lingering touch of green pepper or garden herb. The wine is aged in large oak casks, whereas the estate's other Sant'Antimo Rosso (the wine dedicated to Giovanna Ciacci) is aged in barrique instead. As a result, you get a thinner and less formal mouthfeel here. Some 20,000 bottles were made.
