A wine I always find to be a good value, the 2014 C?tes du Rh?ne Village Cairanne (50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre and 10% Carignan) has a charming, forward and gulpable feel in its black raspberry, peppery spice and crushed flower-like aromas and flavors. Mostly destemmed and brought up all in concrete tank, you could do a lot worse than a case of this to enjoy over the coming 4-5 years.

Boisson’s 2013 Cairanne (50% Grenache, 20% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre, and 10% Carignan) comes from roughly one-third each of limestone, clay and pepper soils. Mostly destemmed and aged all in concrete, it has plenty of dark fruits, pepper and wet rock-like minerality to go with a medium-bodied, elegant and lively feel on the palate. It shows the brighter acidity of the vintage, but is certainly well done and should be good wine.

The straight 2012 Cairanne (50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre and 10% Carignan) is a beautiful looking tank sample. Its vibrant purple color is followed by a great bouquet of sweet blackberry, currant, ground pepper and wild herbs. This is followed by a rich, medium+ bodied Cairanne that has fantastic purity, not hard edges and superb freshness. It will be approachable on release and age gracefully for 5-6 years. The 2011 Cairanne is a sweetly fruited, supple and nicely textured effort that’s geared for immediate gratification. Plum, candied cherries, violets, mint and hints of flowers all shows from this enjoyable 2011. A blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre and 10% Carignan that spent 18 months all in concrete, consume it over the coming couple of years. The 2010 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne offers copious amounts of strawberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with underbrush/foresty/earthy notes, pepper and spice box. Dense and rich with great fruit, supple tannins and impressive purity, it should be consumed over the next 4-5 years. As I wrote last year, Domaine Boisson, not to be confused with the Domaine de Boissan, is owned by two brothers, Alain, who oversees the Cros de Romet property and Bruno, who is in charge of the Domaine Boisson cuvees. One of the finest estates in Cairanne, I have enjoyed these wines for a number of years. Like their 2007s and 2009s, the 2010s are superb efforts. Moreover, prices are ridiculously fair for such quality.
